NODA Review – Blackadder II: The Snake Bites Back
The following was independently written but not published in the Berwick Advertiser:
Berwick Operatic Society performed for the first time at The Guildhall, Berwick last week. Their play, “Blackadder II, The Snake Bites Back!” was much appreciated by audiences who were seated at tables as cast performed “in the round”. Bill Shardlow and Nicola Stebbing who reprised their roles as “Lord Blackadder” and “Queenie” were again, hilarious. They had excellent support from new cast members Slink Jadranko as “Baldrick”, Angela Winson as “Nursie”, Stuart Faed as “Lord Percy” and Jack Crawford as “Bishop of Bath and Wells”/”Sir Walter Raleigh”. Dilys Guthrie and Andy Knight entertained fabulously as Ploppy the Gaoler and Ploppy the Cook amongst other roles. Smaller roles were well played by Andrea McIver as “Lady Farrow”, Jack McIver-Pitt as “Earl Farrow” and Edward Frank as “Arthur the Sailor”. The “Singing Strumpets/Strumps” carried out scene changes and narration through song whilst at the same time adding extra fun to the production. Well done to Jim Herbert who directed the production with assistance from Mark Fleeson. Kathryn Curry, local NODA representative, said “the costumes were fabulous and all the actors played their parts brilliantly”. The Society were pleased to raise funds for the Mind Charity through bucket collections and thank audiences for their generosity.
